Type A Counterfeits

High-grade counterfeits are sold complete with boxes and documents, which are also forged. They are produced with the intention of deceiving unsuspecting buyers, usually by offering a so-called “bargain” market price compared to the watch’s true market value.

These counterfeits not only replicate the external appearance but also imitate the internal mechanical components, making it increasingly difficult for an untrained eye to detect the fraud.

Frankenstein Watch

They are defined this way due to the mix created between original parts, counterfeit parts, and non-coeval components. An example of this type of fraud could be a watch with a fake case and bracelet paired with an original movement.

Cloned Watches (Illicit Origin)

They represent the most widespread threat currently on the market. These are watches of illicit origin (stolen goods) whose serial numbers are rewritten using numbers belonging to other examples of the same model that have not been reported as stolen. In this way, a true clone is created which, at first glance, will show no irregularities to the unsuspecting buyer, whether a dealer or an end customer. The only way to detect the fraud is through a data cross-check (available exclusively to authorized dealers), combined with an expert technical inspection capable of identifying the serial number alteration.

The Solution

RCPO Program

The RCPO (Rolex Certified Pre-Owned) program allows customers to purchase certified pre-owned Rolex watches guaranteed by the Brand. The pieces included in the program are restored in an official Rolex workshop, where their originality undergoes rigorous verification.
